This Seven Snipers review starts with a simple question: can a lean, 87-minute action-thriller make up for a slight script? Directed by Sandra Sciberras, the Australian film gathers Radha Mitchell, Tim Roth and Ioan Gruffudd around a familiar "one last mission" setup. It works in moments, but it rarely sets the pulse racing.

Seven Snipers Review: The Story So Far (No Spoilers)

The Seven Snipers plot centres on Kris Hendricks, a retired elite sniper who once went by the code name Voodoo Child. She now lives quietly on a remote Australian ranch with her teenage daughter, Anja. Her past has not forgotten her.

When a vengeful warlord, known as The Dragon, comes after the girl, Kris has no choice. She must bring her old special-operations team back together and face the threat head-on. That is as far as this review will go, so the rest is yours to discover.

The setup is straightforward and easy to follow. Andrew O'Keefe's screenplay puts the mother-daughter bond at the heart of the story and hangs the action around it.

What Works in Seven Snipers

The best thing about this action thriller is its look. Cinematographer Andrew Conder makes strong use of the Australian landscapes, and the wide, sunbaked spaces give the film a scale its modest size does not suggest. Mulderville singled out his work for praise, and it is easy to see why.

The film also respects your time. At around 87 minutes, it moves quickly and does not pad out its premise.

Other strengths:

  • A clear emotional hook: protecting a child is a simple, effective motivation.

  • Team chemistry: Eye For Film noted that the actors' chemistry, which is key to making the slight story convince, is there for the most part.

  • Setting: the ranch and surrounding land give the film a distinct Australian identity.

If you like the genre, our action movie reviews cover plenty of similar ground.

Seven Snipers Cast and Performances

The Seven Snipers cast is the main draw. Radha Mitchell plays Kris with a weary, guarded toughness that suits a woman trying to leave violence behind. Tim Roth takes on The Dragon, the warlord driving the conflict, and brings his usual presence to the role.

Ioan Gruffudd plays Milk, and he is the standout for some critics. Mulderville felt he brings warmth and humanity to a story that could otherwise feel emotionally cold. Ryan Kwanten appears as Phillips, Annabel Wolfe plays Anja, and Lee Tiger Halley plays Michael.

The ensemble is the film's strongest card. Still, not every team member gets room to stand out, and a few risk blending together.

Where Seven Snipers Stumbles

The problem is the material. Screen Rant gave the film 4/10, arguing it does little to make good on a fairly uncinematic premise. Snipers spend much of their time waiting and watching, which does not naturally produce big set pieces.

The action is competent but seldom thrilling. Some viewers have also found that several characters feel interchangeable, which weakens the "reunited team" idea. We never quite learn why these people matter to one another.

Critical opinion is mixed. Apple TV shows a Rotten Tomatoes score of 64% from 28 reviews, while audience ratings on IMDb-style sites sit lower, in the mid-4 range out of 10.

Is Seven Snipers Worth Watching?

Yes, if your expectations are modest. It is a competent, good-looking B-style thriller that rewards fans of the genre more than casual viewers.

The Seven Snipers release date depends on where you live. It opened in Australian cinemas on 30 April 2026, while in the US it skipped theatres and arrived on digital platforms on 5 June 2026 through Well Go USA. If you want to know where to watch Seven Snipers in the US, look for it on VOD storefronts.

It will not reinvent the genre. But with a game cast and handsome scenery, it is an easy evening watch. If you want something with more bite, try Razor, another story of a fierce fight to protect a child. You can also read more on the film at IMDb.

Who Will Enjoy Seven Snipers

  • Fans of Radha Mitchell and Tim Roth who want to see them in a genre outing.

  • Viewers who like short, straightforward thrillers with a parent-protecting-child hook.

  • Anyone drawn to Australian landscapes and outback settings on screen.

Pros

  • Striking Australian landscape photography
  • Warm turn from Ioan Gruffudd
  • Brisk runtime of about 87 minutes
  • Strong lead pairing in Mitchell and Roth

Cons

  • Action is competent but rarely exciting
  • Several team members feel interchangeable
  • Slight story that only works in moments

Our Verdict

Seven Snipers is a handsome but slight action-thriller carried by its cast and scenery. It is an easy watch for genre fans, but not a standout.
