Dune: Part Three (2026) Preview: Everything We Know About the Final Chapter

Synopsis

Dune: Part Three adapts Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah. The story jumps forward from the end of Part Two: Paul Atreides now rules as emperor, and the jihad he foresaw has swept across the universe in his name.

What we can confirm

• Denis Villeneuve returns to direct the final film of his trilogy.

• Warner Bros. has dated the film for December 18, 2026, including IMAX screens.

• Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya return as Paul and Chani.

• Robert Pattinson joins the cast as Scytale, a shape-shifting Face Dancer.

• An official teaser trailer was released in March 2026, followed by a full trailer.

The premise

Messiah is a more intimate, political book than its predecessor — less about battles, more about the cost of power. Expect a story built around conspiracy at court and Paul's struggle with the future he can see but cannot escape.

Release date & where to watch

The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 18, 2026. No streaming date has been announced; based on previous Warner Bros. releases, a digital release would typically follow some weeks after the theatrical run, but that is not confirmed.

Who will enjoy it

• Anyone who has followed Paul's story through Part One and Part Two

• Readers curious how Villeneuve will handle Herbert's darker sequel

• Fans of large-format, IMAX-first filmmaking
