Hari Hara Veera Mallu Part 1: Sword Vs Spirit Review: The Story So Far (No Spoilers)

The Hari Hara Veera Mallu plot opens in the 1650s, under Mughal rule. Veera Mallu is an outlaw with a Robin Hood streak and motives he keeps to himself. He is hired to steal the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the palace of Aurangzeb.

To pull off the heist, Mallu gathers a crew of misfits, each with a talent of their own. The tagline, "Battle for Dharma," hints that the stakes reach beyond one jewel. This first part sets up a larger rebellion against a brutal empire.

The film is directed by Jyothi Krishna and Krish Jagarlamudi, with Krish also credited as writer. It runs 161 minutes, and that length matters, as we'll see below.

What Works in Hari Hara Veera Mallu

The strongest asset is the music. MM Keeravaani's rousing background score gives the big moments a pulse, and critics have singled it out as a highlight. A song like "Kollagottinadhiro," written by Chandrabose, adds to the folk-heroic flavour.

The action also earns credit. Cinejosh called the choreography commendable, and the sword-driven set pieces give the film its best bursts of energy. When the film commits to a fight or a heist beat, it feels alive.

The central idea is also appealing. A people's outlaw, a legendary diamond and a ruthless emperor make for a classic adventure setup. Fans of action movie reviews and adventure movie reviews will recognise the appeal.

Hari Hara Veera Mallu Cast and Performances

The Hari Hara Veera Mallu cast is led by Pawan Kalyan as Veera Mallu. Reviewers repeatedly point to his screen presence, with one noting that his performance anchors the film and brings energy to a scattered narrative.

Bobby Deol plays Aurangazeb, the imperial villain. Nidhhi Agerwal appears as Panchami, while Nassar plays Vissanna, Sunil Varma is Subbana and Raghu Babu plays Munimanikhyam.

The ensemble gives the film a familiar mix of star charisma and supporting colour. The real issue is that the screenplay does not always give these characters enough shape to shine.

Where Hari Hara Veera Mallu Stumbles

Pacing is the biggest problem. The Hindu wrote that the period drama, which blends fact and fiction, often loses its way and feels stretched. Firstpost called the screenplay half-baked and dragged.

Visual effects are the other sore point. Audiences have complained about them often, and one Rotten Tomatoes user called the last 15 minutes of the climax very bad. For a film that wants to be a grand historical spectacle, shaky effects hurt.

Critical scores reflect this split. Hindustan Times gave 2.5 out of 5 and questioned the execution, and Cinejosh also gave 2.5 out of 5. IMDb lists it at 6.1/10.

Is Hari Hara Veera Mallu Worth Watching?

It is worth watching if you are a Pawan Kalyan fan or you enjoy loud, old-school period adventures. Is Hari Hara Veera Mallu worth watching for everyone else? Probably only with patience.

The score, the star power and some strong action give you real reasons to stay. The meandering script and uneven effects make the long runtime feel longer. Go in expecting a flawed epic rather than a tight thriller.

The film arrived in cinemas on 23 July 2025, and details are on IMDb. If you like larger-than-life stories, you might also try our Coolie (2025) review.

Who Will Enjoy Hari Hara Veera Mallu

  • Pawan Kalyan fans who want a heroic, larger-than-life showcase.

  • Viewers who love Indian period adventures with sword fights and a big musical score.

  • Audiences who can forgive uneven effects and a stretched middle for the sake of spectacle.

Pros

  • Rousing MM Keeravaani score
  • Commendable action choreography
  • Pawan Kalyan's commanding screen presence
  • Appealing outlaw-heist premise

Cons

  • Stretched, scattered screenplay

  • Weak climax according to some viewers

Our Verdict

A star-powered period adventure with a stirring score and decent action, held back by a dragging script and patchy effects. It entertains in bursts but rarely sustains its epic ambition.
