How we rate moviesIn this article
This jujutsu kaisen: execution review looks at an 88-minute compilation that retells the Shibuya Incident and then previews the next arc. It is built for people who already love the anime. Newcomers will find it a steep climb.
Directed by Shota Goshozono and written by Hiroshi Seko, the film is part highlights reel, part teaser. It is a loud, handsome piece of action animation, but not a standalone story.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Review: The Story So Far (No Spoilers)
The plot starts on Halloween night in Shibuya. A veil drops over the crowded district and traps countless civilians inside. Satoru Gojo, the strongest jujutsu sorcerer, steps in, but curse users and spirits are waiting with a plan to seal him away.
Yuji Itadori joins the fight with his classmates and other top sorcerers. The clash that follows is known as the Shibuya Incident. The film then moves on to its second half, where ten colonies across Japan become dens of curses and the Culling Game begins. Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is assigned to carry out Yuji's execution for his perceived crimes.
That means the film is really two things at once: a condensed retelling and an early look at what comes next. If you want the full detail, the original episodes remain the better route.
What Works in Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution
The action is the main draw. Fights are fast, inventive and staged with real force, and the big screen suits them far better than a laptop does. For fans of animated action, this is a strong showcase.
The editing also deserves credit. Squeezing a sprawling arc into under 90 minutes is hard, and the film keeps its momentum high.
Spectacular, high-energy fight choreography
A tight, brisk pace that rarely lingers
A tantalising preview of the Culling Game arc

Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Cast and Performances
The Japanese voice cast is the same one fans know from the series. Junya Enoki voices Yuji Itadori, and his raw, emotional delivery gives the story its heart. Yuma Uchida returns as Megumi Fushiguro and Asami Seto as Nobara Kugisaki.
Megumi Ogata voices Yuta Okkotsu, who takes centre stage in the closing stretch. Daisuke Namikawa plays Choso, and Koji Yusa voices Naoya Zen'in. Their performances are consistent and committed, even when the compressed script gives them little room.
The film is in Japanese, so expect subtitles in most regions.
Where Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Stumbles
The big problem is accessibility. The film assumes you know the characters, the grudges and the alliances. If you do not, the emotional beats will land with much less weight.
Compilation films also lose something. Scenes that built slowly over many episodes are trimmed, and the pacing can feel rushed. The second half works more as a trailer than a finished story, so it ends without real closure. Some viewers will feel they are paying cinema prices for material they have already seen.
Audience reaction reflects this. Early viewer scores sit in the middle, with one reviewer noting that the film spends a long time abridging old storylines before teeing up the new ones.
Is Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Worth Watching?
Yes, if you already follow the anime and want to see the Shibuya Incident on a big screen. No, if you are new to the series and hoping for a self-contained film.
The animation and action justify the trip for fans, and the Culling Game preview adds some fresh anticipation. For everyone else, watching the series first is the smarter move. You can read more about the film on IMDb, or explore our action movie reviews for other options.
