No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger (2026) Review: A Crossover Sendoff Built For Fans

This No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger review starts with a simple point: the film is built for Super Sentai fans, and it knows it. It pairs the 50th anniversary team with Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger in a 64-minute action crossover. It is also described as the 31st and possibly final entry in the long-running VS series.

No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger Review: The Story So Far (No Spoilers)

The plot begins at the Big Bang Grand Prix, where the Boonboomgers' race is violently interrupted. Universe No. 1, the universe's top-ranked monster, appears and sets off a catastrophic universe fusion. Parallel worlds merge into one chaotic continuum.

Taiya Hando, also known as Bun Red, is flung to Planet Shaft, where the Bitter Demon Beast Galaxy Circuit Guruma attacks him. Hoeru Tono, aka Gozyu Wolf, arrives to back him up. Back on Earth, the remaining Gozyugers take on Universe No. 1 while the rest of the Boonboomgers rush to help.

The tagline, "Engage to put an end to all battles!!", sums up the tone well. It is a big, loud, multiversal setup that gets going quickly. The first act wastes little time on explanation, which suits the genre.

What Works in No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger

The biggest strength is the chemistry between the two teams. One Letterboxd reviewer says both groups bounce off each other in fun ways, and that matches the film's energy. Team-ups like this live or die on the banter, and here it mostly lands.

The action is the other draw. Director Shojiro Nakazawa keeps the fights frequent and varied, with the monster threat feeding a steady run of set pieces. For fans of this action-heavy corner of Japanese tokusatsu, that is the main appeal.

The short running time helps too. At 64 minutes, the film never overstays its welcome. You can see it as a tight, high-speed anniversary celebration rather than a sprawling epic.

It also gives the Gozyuger side a big dramatic beat. Hoeru's new evolution, Saint Gozyu Wolf, arrives with a clear vow to "stop the battle." It is a striking image that gives the crossover a hook beyond the usual team-up formula.

No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger Cast and Performances

The No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger cast is led by Mio Fuyuno as Hoeru Tono / Gozyu Wolf. Around him are Hideharu Suzuki as Rikuo Byakuya / Gozyu Leon, Masakazu Kanda as Ryugi Bakugami / Gozyu Tyranno, Jin Matsumoto as Kinjiro Takehara / Gozyu Eagle, Kohaku Shida as Sumino Ichikawa / Gozyu Unicorn and Kaiki Kimura as Mashiro Kumade / Gozyu Polar.

The ensemble works best as a group. Performances in this genre are broad and energetic by design, and the cast commits to that style. Fuyuno carries the emotional spine as Hoeru, especially once the stakes rise.

With so many heroes sharing 64 minutes, not everyone gets equal time. That is a common issue in crossovers, and some characters feel more like colorful presences than fully developed people.

Where No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger Stumbles

The brevity cuts both ways. One Letterboxd reviewer notes it wraps up in about 60 minutes and doesn't leave a mark. My Shiny Toy Robots calls it a somewhat unceremonious end to 50 years of adventures.

That captures the main weakness. The multiverse premise is large, but the film has little room to explore it. Big ideas arrive quickly and move on just as fast.

Newcomers will also struggle. The film assumes you know both teams, their gadgets and their rivalries. If you want a gentle entry point, this is not it.

Is No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger Worth Watching?

Yes, if you already follow either team or enjoy Super Sentai crossovers. It delivers lively team-ups, plenty of fights and a satisfying sense of occasion in a compact package. The No.1 Sentai Gozyuger vs. Boonboomger release date was 20 March 2026 in Japan.

It is less convincing as a standalone movie. The story is thin and the finale-style weight some viewers hoped for is limited. For readers who want more in the genre, our action movie reviews cover a wider range of picks.
